Inspired by water reeds (called kalamia in greek), which are commonly found in the greek isles and mainland.
Cousins to the bamboo plant (poaceae), reeds typically grow in wetlands, marshes, and along the edges of bodies of water. Known for their adaptability to various water conditions, they are a staple of the greek ecosystem.
Behind the name: a story in Dionysiaca by Nonnus tells the tale of two young lovers karpos and Kalamos. After losing Karpos to the strong tides of the meander river, Kalamos transformed into a water reed, spending eternity with his loved one.
